BUS NEWS - Route 69 and 65
There is a planned 2-week mid-day (i.e. 9-15h) closure of the section (see below) in mid-Feb.
Bus route 69
Recently there has been quite some disruption, caused by repeat issue with trees on the A466 section in Gloucestershire between Bigsweir Bridge and Redbrook. And once again the initial communication was poor, with Newport Bus finding out about the first closure literally when the bus turned up at the closed section of road. Communications did though improve subsequently.
So Newport Bus will be able to operate the school journeys and the late-afternoon journeys as normal. In between a 2-hourly service will be operated between Chepstow, St. Arvans, Tintern & Llandogo, with other buses running between Monmouth and Chepstow via St Arvans & Devauden (augmenting route 65, but not via the Narth and Penallt).
Redbrook will not be served 9-15h.
There is a planned 24/7 6-week closure of in May/June. This will require a special timetable, which Newport Bus is working on.
Bus route 65
An enhanced bus service did run on the weekend of the 2025 Devauden festival. During that weekend 534 passengers were carried against, an average of 91.
MCC has agreed to support the additional service again for 2026. Note that is likely that the enhanced service will look slightly different in 2026 compared to 2025, taking account of lessons learned
