Itton Road Safety Consultation

In late January 2026 DCC co-ordinated a ‘walk-an talk’ at Itton with concerned residents and Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) Highways department, to discuss solutions to traffic speeding through the village.

That has resulted in a set of measures designed to make lower speeds the natural choice for drivers by reinforcing the road’s village character, as well as through active and passive road signs.

You can view the proposals below, and download more information on these links.

Itton Road Sign Scheme.

Itton Roadmarking Scheme

On March 10th, a consultation meeting with residents at Itton Village Hall approved both schemes with the exception of the removal of centre line markings. There will be further consultation over the medium term on that measure.

Itton Roadmarkings Scheme

Drawing from successful schemes implemented elsewhere in the county, the effect of the changed roadmarkings will be to visually narrow the carriageway, reduce the perception of the road as a through-route and reinforce its village character.

Please note there are more detailed versions of this plan, including exploded views of sections A B and C, on the link at the top of this page.

Also, measures to remove centre line markings indicated in the scheme are on hold, awaiting further consultation.
